Following in the footsteps of our mining Pioneers

Let the Tour begin!  
View & Discover!  
A complete, unique, guided tour viewing the present and discovering the past.  Mount Morgan township, old gold mine and Jurassic Caves.

Departing from the Mount Morgan Information Centre Railway Complex, the tour proceeds through William Street and around the Number Seven Big Dam, followed by the point stop of the recently constructed suspension Bridge.  

The tour then ventures on through the town highlighting various points of interest of both historical and redeveloped buildings. Set down sites strategically chosen for maximum information and enjoyment.

A panoramic view of the town and mine is then offered from the Arthur Timms Lookout.  The tour proceeds along the banks of the Dee River then onto the mine site stopping at the special viewing platform , delving through the historical aspects of the 108 years of mining.  View the old underground workings and the main Stack.  See and feel the environmental rehabilitation projects underway on the Mount Morgan mine site by the Queensland Government.  Overlook the Open Cut Pit as we wind our way to the man made fire clay caverns and take an inside look

at the Jurassic era displayed with the dinosaur footprints

 

and cavern excavation.

 

 

Tours depart daily at 10.30am and 1pm (Times can vary in off season, so please check to avoid disappointment) from the Mount Morgan old Railway Complex.  See our fares  Please note the following:

  • Access to mine and caves may be affected by wet conditions.

  • Closed in footwear mandatory

  • Group bookings of maximum 16 welcome in our Coach (Please Book)

  • Special arrangements for school excursions and groups in private coaches

  • Special day trip to Mount Morgan.  Group pick up from Rockhampton region arranged on request; traveling via the scenic Kabra Lane and Razorback to Mount Morgan to connect with the 10.30am tour and return to Rockhampton by 4pm.
