Our commentary can be adjusted to meet a range of student curriculum ranging from social science to geological discoveries. Examples of commentary focus are as follows:

•  Environmental studies :

Commentary for environmental studies includes education on the rehabilitation of the area today, maintained by the Queensland Government. This focus highlights the resulting environmental issues of the mine's early operation; including information regarding the issue of acid rock drainage on the site area, the consequential contaminated water in the open cut pit, and the contamination occurring to the Dee River below the site area and further downstream. This particular focus discusses the importance of rehabilitation through discussion of the improvements of the site today, and the methods carried out by the Queensland Government to increase the future environmental sustainability of the area.

•  The geology and mining:

Details of the Gold, copper and silver extraction and processing methods can be a main and interesting focus. This focus discusses such processes - all in the one area with different types of mining methods; processed and adapted for over 100 years of operation.

Further information on the mine's reprocessing stage are also available.

The many geological formations are evident on the mine site with many igneous rock formations to be seen around the open cut pit area leading to the displays of sedimentary strata evident on the sandstone ridges. Close up examples of these prehistoric mud deposits are displayed by numerous layers, clearly visible inside the fireclay caverns situated on the north boundary of the mining lease.

•  Palaeontology:

Requested palaeontology focused tours include discussion on prehistoric fossil findings discovered on the Mine Site, and details into the prehistoric era. This focus ensures education is fun, with a walk through of Michael Durrant's Wonderful World of Fossils Display, and access to the Man Made Fire Clay Caverns on the Mine Site, home to the famous prehistoric dinosaur footprints. Actual sighting is gained with close up viewing from special constructed viewing platforms. Guides offer a full comprehension of the prints discovery and how they remain on the ceiling of the caverns today.

•  Heritage Listed areas and areas of Historical Importance-

Township:

Tours catered to the focus of heritage listing and historically important areas can focus on a range of buildings and sites throughout Mount Morgan. Commentary and travelling can include heritage listed buildings in the township of Mount Morgan, and/ or the Mount Morgan Cemetery, with discussion of the historically significant monuments within.

*Travel for this focus can also arrange stop offs or guided tours of Mount Morgan's Historical Museum, and historic Rail Museum.

Mine:

This tour can include or solely focus on the old Gold Mine, and discuss the heritage listed site; the remaining buildings on site, and various machinery and equipment.

Commentary and travel with this particular focus highlights the overall concept of heritage listed areas, and the result of the Mount Morgan buildings and areas which are heritage listed today.

•  The Gold Rush:

Tours focusing on the Gold Mine in operation includes education on the Mount Morgan Mine's history; the numerous companies in operation over the 100 year of the mine's life, its wealth, its fame and what is left of it all today. Education is made practical with gold panning activities for each student.

•  General:

If you are interested in a general overview of all of the above, this is certainly possible. Commentary can be adapted to suit student age, and learning style.
